The Institute of Cosmophysical Research and Radio Wave Propagation of the Far-Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Science(IKIR FEB RAS) was organized in 1987 on the basis of complex magneto-ionospheric stations which had been established since early 60-ies. IKIR is located in Paratunka, 26 km to the West from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

Main subjects of scientific research:
- study of the nature of solar-terrestrial relations and monitoring of ionospheric-magnetospheric disturbances;
- study of geophysical processes during solar, cyclone and seismic activity;
- study of radio wave propagation;
- development of radiophysical, acoustic and optical methods of investigation of natural environments;
- study of the physics of electromagnetic and acoustic earthquake precursors.

IKIR FEB RAS includes five observatories, located in Kamchatka, Magadan, Sakhalin and Khabarovsk regions and also two expedition points in Kamchatka.
